The adventure

  • First Constructions

Here we are again on our land.

Here, to show that the land belongs to someone, the owners build fences to delimit their property.

At first, we are not really convinced.

Then, discussions after discussions with other buyers but also with the family that welcomes us in Melolo, we decide to build a fence.

At first, we want to use tree branches planted in the ground that then grow back and become trees, which is what the island's inhabitants usually use.

  • In Search of Water

With this new trip, we are determined to find water on our site.

After many ideas: find a chamman, a dyer, a company .... Our choice is on the less traditional solution, get someone with a machine!

But this is not so simple: Sony who welcomes us to his family during our stay contacts this person, then we await his arrival.

Two days later, we meet him on the road between Melolo and Waingapu. Everyone will park, shake hands, explain our need and then a new appointment is given in the evening at Sony.

  • Indonesian Bank Account

We go back to Waingapu to try to open an Indonesian bank account to facilitate our various approaches to the resort.

We arrive at the bank at 4pm. On the door, a small "closed" sign is displayed. Oh no !!

People still seem to be inside. The door is pushed open.

At the reception, Youri explains our request. For English it is not won but Anggun at the reception tries to communicate with us. (We really need to perfect our Indonesian!) She photocopies our passport. An appointment with the manager is scheduled for next Tuesday.

  • The Foundation

The spirit of our project is to be sustainable. This means economically viable, environmentally friendly and job creator.

For this, we decided in parallel to the creation of the resort, to create an international solidarity association that we call Sumba Bisa. Which means "Sumba is capable of ...."

The objectives of this association are to enable the sumbanais to create their own employment in various fields.

One of the projects envisaged is to promote the island through organized tours with local guides.

  • The Project

The land in our pocket, the adventure can begin.

We imagine the resort as a place of peace built with existing materials on the island to limit the environmental impacts.

We opt for a bamboo construction, material present on the island and very resistant. The traditional Sumbanese houses are built of bamboo with high roofs.

While visiting the traditional villages of the island, we think of the resort's buildings. We imagine bungalows designed like traditional houses.

  • The beggining

We are a couple with a thirst for adventure and energy to sell, arrived at a key moment in our history where our questioning about our desires, our future is omnipresent. In November 2014, we leave on a journey the island of Sumba in search of something different. We cross the island, make beautiful encounters and enjoy a total change of scenery. In the course of our journey, we visit bits of this island for sale, saying why not? We come back to France with lots of images and dreams in the head, considering a new beginning.
